Our New 2-Ton SuperHeat: Quick ‘n’ Easy Training Video #1

Dave and Todd unbox Airspool's new 2-ton SuperHeat mini-split and walk through the one real difference in its Quick ’n’ EasyTM install: a kink-resistant flexible line set built for the larger half-inch refrigerant line.

  • The new 2-ton Airspool SuperHeat unit ships strapped to a plywood base for extra support; remove it promptly so it doesn't rot or attract pests over time.
  • The same Phillips drill bit included for mounting the indoor wall plate is used to remove the four screws holding the plywood in place.
  • The only real install difference from the 1-ton units: the 2-ton ships with a flexible, kink-resistant line set because its half-inch low-pressure line is more prone to kinking.
  • Explains why Airspool waited to release 2-ton units: they were developing and perfecting this kink-free flexible line set for the Quick ’n’ EasyTM system.
  • Still uses the same quick-connect communication wire port, solar connector, and twist-to-connect refrigerant valves as other Quick ’n’ EasyTM units, and heats down to -22°F.

Questions this video answers

Why didn't Airspool release 2-ton units sooner?

They waited to develop and perfect a kink-free flexible line set needed for the Quick ’n’ EasyTM install system before releasing the larger 2-ton units.

Does the 2-ton unit install the same way as the 1-ton models?

Yes, installation is nearly identical to the 1-ton units, with one exception: the 2-ton comes with a flexible, kink-resistant refrigerant line set instead of the standard rigid line.

Why does the 2-ton unit ship on a plywood board?

Because of its added weight, it ships strapped to a plywood base. You should remove the screws and take the unit off the plywood promptly so it doesn't sit there and rot or attract pests over time.

What tool do I need to remove the shipping plywood from the unit?

The same Phillips drill bit that's included for mounting the indoor unit's wall plate works to remove the four screws holding the plywood.

Why is a flexible line set needed on the 2-ton units?

The 2-ton's low-pressure refrigerant line is a larger half-inch diameter. That bigger vessel made from the same-thickness copper is much more prone to kinking, so Airspool includes a flexible, kink-resistant line set to prevent damage during install.

How cold can the new 2-ton Airspool heat pump heat down to?

The 2-ton SuperHeat units can heat effectively down to -22°F, making them suited for cold climates.

What's the 2-ton model called and what is it used for?

It's Airspool's HS24 SuperHeat unit, a two-ton (24,000 BTU) heat pump mini-split built to deliver strong heating and cooling performance, including in cold climates.

Hey guys, Dave and Todd here with the monster two-ton unit. These suckers crank out the hot and cold air, because this one has SuperHeat. But because of the weight, we have to ship it on this plywood here. So the first thing you're going to do is pick out a spot where you want to put this unit.

Once you get it, you're probably not going to want to keep this resting here, because over time this will attract termites, or if it gets wet, whatever. Probably why else would they want you to take that off? Todd: It'll rot. It'll rot, simply put, it will rot.

So this same drill bit we give you for the other parts, like mounting the indoor unit plate, the mounting plate on the wall, the same Phillips driver will take this off. All right, think you can handle that one? That's step one. Do that on all four screws here. We could have had a neater work environment to make our video, but...

The other thing, the only other notable difference on the installation... and there's the last of the four screws over there. The only other notable difference on the installation for the two-ton is we ship with this flexible line set. We always say be real cautious with a line set. I mean, don't whip somebody with it, but it's pretty impervious to kinks.

And that's wonderful. The reason we give you this is because on the two-ton units, it comes with half-inch low-pressure refrigerant line, and that's very prone to kink because it's the same diameter copper, yet it's a bigger diameter vessel for carrying the refrigerant. Because of that, it's problematic, it's very easy to kink.

So other than that, it's a Quick ’n’ EasyTM install, just like the one-ton units. It still has this port for connecting the quick-connect communication control wires. The solar connects right here. And it'll have, we don't have it installed here yet, but we'll have, the twist-to-connect valves right here for the refrigerant lines. Okay.
