Meet the Airspool MU36

The MU36 is Airspool's whole-home solution. One powerful outdoor unit powers three indoor zones out of the box, with the option to add a fourth indoor zone if you want it — all connected with the Quick ’n’ EasyTM system that takes about 5 minutes per zone.

Each indoor unit delivers 12,000 BTU of cooling and heating — enough for a bedroom, office, or living area up to ~500 sq ft. Combined, you're looking at 36,000 BTU of total climate control across your home, guest house, or property, with the flexibility to expand to one more room from the same outdoor unit.

And like every Airspool, it's a true hybrid. Solar when the sun's up, grid when it's not. No batteries, no inverters, no headaches.

Configuration 3-4 Zones
Heats and cools around 1,500 Sq Ft 36,000 BTU
Cooling up to 131°F Outdoor temperature
Heating down to 5°F Outdoor temperature

Operating Modes

Grid Power Only

Connect your unit to a 220/240V outlet and enjoy high-efficiency heating and cooling across your connected zones.

Solar Power Only mode

Solar Power Only

Going off grid? We recommend around 4,500 watts of solar panels to enjoy year-round comfort across your connected zones.

Hybrid Grid/Solar

Your MU36 seamlessly blends grid and solar power so you never lose comfort in any connected zone. Solar is prioritized, and grid power automatically fills in as needed.

Planning Your MU36 Layout

Zone 1 includes a 25 ft line set.

Zone 2 includes a 16 ft line set, and Zone 3 includes a 10 ft line set. If you want a fourth zone, you can add it in the MU36 builder, and that optional Zone 4 includes a 10 ft line set. Extended line sets can be ordered for any room that is farther away.

That makes the MU36 ideal for three nearby rooms, or for a layout that starts with three rooms and expands to a fourth. Measure from the flare connection on each indoor head to the flare connection on the outdoor unit.

Need to customize your unit? Add longer line sets and even an entire fourth zone at checkout.

The Quick ’n’ EasyTM System

The Secret That Will Save You Hours and $$$

Installing a mini-split system typically requires a vacuum pump, gauge set, specialized wrenches, adapters, correct-sized screwdrivers, wire cutters/strippers, and potentially extra refrigerant. Plus, know-how, patience and time.

But not with Airspool.

We do all of that work and pre-install our patent-pending Quick ’n’ EasyTM valves at our US headquarters. So when your unit shows up at your doorstep, you just twist the connections!

We'll Customize Your Line Set Length!

With most mini-splits, you get what you get as far as line set length.

But not with Airspool.

Because we customize everything in-house, you have the option to customize the length of your lineset. All the way to 49 ft!

And, since we test all aspects (e.g. solar, grid, and a combination of both) before shipping, we know it's going to work for you. Because of this, you get an unprecedented 5-year functionality guarantee.

2 Ways to Control Your Airspool

Control each zone independently from your phone — set different temperatures for different rooms, schedule each zone's on/off times, and see your solar savings. The Apple/Android app gives you full control from anywhere in the world.

And each indoor unit comes with its own remote for quick, hands-on adjustments. One remote per indoor unit, total control.

Do It Yourself (Really!)

The Airspool Quick ’n’ EasyTM system is about to make your life much easier.

Imagine installing a complete multi-zone HVAC system by yourself, with no previous experience, and doing it in a single day!

This is your reality with Airspool.

Step 1. Place the outdoor unit

Set the outdoor unit on a stable surface with room for airflow. Position it centrally to minimize line set distances to your indoor zones, including an optional fourth if you add one.

Step 2. Drill holes

Mark your wall paths for the three included zones and drill the pass-through openings. If you are adding the optional fourth zone, repeat the same process for that room too. Keep angles slightly downward for drainage.

Step 3. Mount your indoor units

Secure the wall brackets and hang Zones 1, 2, and 3. Make sure each indoor unit is level and fully seated on its bracket. If you ordered the optional fourth zone, mount that indoor unit too using the same bracket-and-level process.

Step 4. Twist to connect all line sets

Route the pre-charged lines from each indoor unit to the outdoor unit and twist-connect. About 5 minutes per zone. Standard three-zone installs take about 15 minutes for the connections, with a bit more time if you add the optional fourth zone.

Step 5. Mount your isolator and plug in your solar (optional)

Install the isolator in an accessible location near your outdoor setup. Connect solar input if desired, or continue with grid power only.

Step 6. Turn it on and enjoy!

Power the system, run startup checks on your connected zones, and set your comfort modes. Independent temperatures, one system.

How can we be so confident you can install this yourself, even with zero experience?

Because we give you:

  • an industry-best installation manual full of full color photos and written in native English!
  • dozens of installation videos which make it even easier
  • and unlimited phone support if you get stuck!

Customers often ask...

How long will it take to install my MU36?
Plan on 4-6 hours for the standard three-zone install — you're essentially repeating the same process three times. The twist-to-connect work is about 5 minutes per zone (15 minutes total). If you add the optional fourth zone, allow a bit more time for that room. Having a helper to hold indoor units while you tighten brackets will speed things up.
What tools do I need at home to install an MU36?
Just a drill — and ideally an extra set of hands for hanging the indoor units. We include the hole saw, drill bits, screwdriver bit, level, and the hardware for each zone you order.

Frequently Asked Questions about MU36

Click a question to expand

How loud is the MU36?

The indoor units operate at whisper-quiet, library-like levels. Even with three zones running, the outdoor unit is comparable to a normal conversation. You’ll barely notice the system.

Can I set different temperatures in each zone?

Yes! Each indoor unit has its own remote and can be controlled independently through the Airspool app. Set Zone 1 to 72°F, Zone 2 to 68°F, and Zone 3 to 74°F — the system handles it.

Can I heat one zone and cool another at the same time?

No — all zones must be in the same mode (all cooling or all heating). If you need simultaneous heating and cooling in different rooms, consider separate mini-splits instead.

Can I run only one or two zones and leave the others off?

Absolutely. Turn off individual zones as needed — the system only uses the power required for the active zone(s). Great for saving energy when not all rooms are occupied.

Are all three indoor units the same size?

Yes — all three are 12,000 BTU each. Like the updated MU24 base configuration, the MU36 uses equal-sized indoor heads for balanced performance across all zones, but the MU36 adds a third zone and more total capacity.

What's the difference between the MU24 and the MU36?

The MU24 has 2 zones (12K + 12K BTU) from a 24K outdoor unit. The MU36 has 3 zones (12K + 12K + 12K) from a 36K outdoor unit. The MU36 adds an extra zone and more total capacity while keeping the same equal-sized indoor head approach. Both use the same Quick ’n’ EasyTM connection, 220/240V power, and 5-year guarantee.

What kind of electrical outlet does the MU36 need?

220/240V, 20-amp — same type used for clothes dryers and ovens. Most homes already have this available. A plug can be added free of charge upon request.

Do I need solar panels?

No — the MU36 works perfectly on grid power alone. Add solar whenever you’re ready. We recommend about 4,500 watts (~$1,650 for panels plus mounting) when you do.

How long does the MU36 take to install?

Plan on 4-6 hours. You’re repeating the same process three times: mount, drill, route. The twist-to-connect connections are about 5 minutes per zone (15 minutes total for all three). Having a helper to hold indoor units speeds things up.

What tools do I need?

Just a drill — and ideally an extra set of hands. We include the hole saw, drill bits, screwdriver bit, level, and all hardware for all three zones.

Should I get the MU36 or three separate mini-splits?

Multi-split (MU36) advantages: much lower cost than three separate systems, one outdoor unit, one solar connection, less wiring, smallest outdoor footprint.

Separate mini-split advantages: full redundancy, shorter line sets, ability to heat one room while cooling another, 120V option for 12K units.

If you need three zones and want to save money and outdoor space — the MU36 is hard to beat.

Can I move the MU36 after installation?

Yes. All twist-to-connect valves unscrew and reconnect without losing refrigerant. The entire three-zone system is fully portable.

What happens if I have too much or too little solar power?

Same as all Airspool units. Too little? Grid fills in automatically. Too much? Excess goes unused harmlessly.

What maintenance does the MU36 need?

Clean each indoor unit’s air filter quarterly — that’s three filters, each taking about 2 minutes. Vacuum all three indoor coils and spray down the outdoor coil annually.

What's included with my MU36?

1 outdoor unit (36K BTU), 3 identical indoor units (12K BTU each), pre-charged twist-to-connect line sets for all three zones, 220/240V power cord, communication wire for each zone, 3 wall brackets, 3 remote controls, condensate hose, and the free Quick ’n’ EasyTM Bonus Kit. Everything except a drill, solar panels, and any extended line sets you may need.

How much does shipping cost for the MU36?

Shipping is highly discounted worldwide and shown at checkout before you purchase. The MU36 ships palletized and arrives on a truck with a lift gate to your residence or business.
