01The big idea

Solar air conditioning, without the science project.

Most “solar AC” setups need batteries, an inverter, and net metering — you end up spending as much on the system around the air conditioner as on the air conditioner itself.

The WS12 skips all of it. Its DC motors run on the same power solar panels make, so panels plug straight into the unit. Sun out? It runs on solar first. Sun fades? Grid power fills in automatically. You switch nothing, manage nothing — and it works on day one with zero panels.

What you don't need

Batteries
Inverter
Net metering
Vacuum pump & gauges
Panels plug straight in. That's the whole system.
10 min to install — no tools
12,000 BTU cooling only
500 sq ft coverage
15 CEER ~2× a standard window unit

02How it works

Three ways to power it. Zero switches to flip.

01

Standard 120V plug

Grid only Works on day one

Plug your WS12 into any standard 120V outlet and enjoy high-efficiency cooling. No solar required — and at 15 CEER it is still about twice as efficient as a typical window unit.

02

Solar panel

Solar only Free cooling in the sun

Connect approximately 1,800 watts of solar panels and cool your space for free during sunny hours.

03

Hybrid grid and solar mode

Hybrid Sunshine first, automatically

The WS12 seamlessly blends solar and grid power so you never lose comfort. Solar is prioritized; grid fills in as needed.

Too little solar? Grid fills in automatically. Too much? No harm done. You never touch a switch.

03Do it yourself (really)

No drill. No line set. About 10 minutes.

Three steps: open the window, set the unit, plug it in. There's no refrigerant connection to make — the WS12 is one sealed unit.

  1. 01

    Open your window

    Works with standard single-hung and double-hung windows. Minimum window size: 24" wide × 36" high (23.5" × 16" opening).

  2. 02

    Place the unit and secure

Set the WS12 in the opening, apply the self-adhesive foam gasket, and lower the sash onto the unit. For added security, screw it into the window frame.

  3. 03

    Plug in and cool down

Plug into any standard 110/115/120V outlet (15-amp). Want solar? Click your panels into the solar input. That's it.

Delivery was fast. I live on the Texas coastline hot and humid. The unit runs at 50% and very comfortable at night it runs at 25% and still comfortable by morning. Very happy with it. I plan on getting a split unit next, and then another window unit. Keep my house cool without a high electric bill.

06The running cost

What it costs to run. Honestly.

50–80% lower cooling-related electricity costs during sunny months — what Airspool customers typically report

Air conditioning is 50–70% of most summer electricity bills. Solar targets that biggest expense directly.

On grid alone the WS12 runs 15 CEER — about twice the efficiency of a typical window unit (7–8 CEER).

No inverter, batteries, or net-metering paperwork — panels plug straight into the unit, so the system around the AC costs nothing.

Run your own numbers: is solar air conditioning worth it?

07Straight talk

Is the WS12 right for you?

We'd rather point you at the right unit than sell you the wrong one.

Right for you if…

  • You're renting, or can't drill holes — the WS12 is completely reversible and moves with you
  • You want cooling only (no heating needed), for a room up to about 500 sq ft
  • A standard single-hung or double-hung window at least 24" wide × 36" high
  • Any standard 110/115/120V outlet (15-amp)
  • You want to try solar AC at the lowest upfront cost

Airspool exists because we decided the hard part of a mini-split install — the refrigerant work — belonged in our shop, not on your wall. Every unit is customized and tested on solar, grid, and hybrid power at our US headquarters before it ships. If you have a question before or after you buy, call or text (725) 699-1200 — you'll get the same people who build and test these units, not a call center.

13Everything else

Questions, answered straight.

Is the WS12 as quiet as a mini-split?

Honestly, no. The WS12 runs at about 55 dB indoors near the unit (vs. 42.5 dB for the MS12/HS12 in turbo mode). Window units are inherently louder because the compressor is in the room. That said, the WS12’s inverter compressor is significantly quieter than a standard window unit — no jarring on/off cycling. At 25% speed, it’s very manageable. If whisper-quiet is your top priority, consider the MS12 mini-split.

Can the WS12 heat as well as cool?

No — the WS12 is cooling only. If you need heating, look at our mini-split lineup: the MS12 or MS24 for moderate climates, or the HS12 or HS24 for extreme cold.

Does the WS12 use the Quick ’n’ EasyTM connection system?

No — the WS12 doesn’t need it. Quick ’n’ EasyTM is for connecting indoor and outdoor units via a refrigerant line set. Since the WS12 is a single self-contained window unit, there’s nothing to connect. Just place it in your window and plug it in.

Do I need solar panels right now or can I get them later?

Nope. The WS12 works perfectly on standard 120V grid power alone — and it’s still twice as efficient as a typical window unit. Add solar whenever you’re ready.

How much solar wattage do I need?

We recommend around 1,800 watts of solar panels (75-380V input range). Budget around $600 for panels plus mounting.

Will it fit my window?

The WS12 requires a minimum window size of 24" wide × 36" high (which gives you a 23.5" wide × 16" high opening). It works with standard single-hung and double-hung windows. Sliding windows or casement windows are not compatible without modification.

Can I use it without a window (through-the-wall)?

We recommend window installation for the WS12. Through-the-wall installation may be possible but would require custom framing and is not officially supported. If you want a through-the-wall solution, consider the MS12 mini-split — it’s designed for exactly that.

How does it compare to a regular window AC?

The WS12 is roughly twice as efficient as a standard window unit (15 CEER vs. 7-8 CEER typical). It has an inverter compressor with variable speed control (25/50/75/100%), so it uses less energy at lower settings. The inverter also eliminates the on/off cycling of traditional window units — no inrush current surges, which saves money and reduces noise. It runs at about 55 dB, which is louder than a mini-split but comparable to a quality window unit. And of course, it can run on solar — something almost no other window unit can do.

Should I get the WS12 or the MS12 mini-split?

The WS12 is best if: you’re renting, you can’t drill holes, you only need cooling, you want the lowest upfront cost, or you want a portable unit you can take when you move.

The MS12 is best if: you want heating and cooling, you want whisper-quiet operation, you want higher efficiency, you want a permanent built-in solution, or you don’t want to sacrifice window space.

Both are solar/hybrid, both are backed by the same 5-year guarantee, and both cool around 500 sq ft with 12,000 BTU.

How much does shipping cost for the WS12?

Shipping is highly discounted worldwide and shown at checkout before you purchase. You will receive 2 boxes: the WS12 window unit with accessories (around 75 lbs) and the solar isolator (around 2 lbs).
